Pathanamthitta-In 1982 the district of Pathanamthitta was formed and the town of Pathanamthitta was named its headquarters. It is surrounded by the districts of Kottayam, Idukki, Kollam and Alappuzha on all directions. It is an inland district. It is predominantly an agricultural district growing rubber and tea the most. The shrine at Sabaimala is a star attraction and about 10 million pilgrims visit it every year.Pathanamthitta is the youngest district in Kerala.

Vazhamuttom is a village township near to Pathanamthitta City in Pathanamthitta District, Kerala, India..
Vazhamuttom is famous for the ancient Thazhoor Bhagavathy Kshetram(temple). "Padayani" performances are held at the temple annually. Padayani songs are very ancient folk-lore of Kerala. the padayani folk-dances are traditionally preserved in this part of Kerala. The word padayani literally means military formations or rows of army, but in this folk art we have mainly a series of divine and semi-divine impersonations wearing huge masks or kolams of different shapes, colours and desingns painted on the stalks of arecanut fronds. The Padayani is dedicated to the Goddess Bhadrakaali. The Padayani is a marvellous combination of music, dance, painting and satire. The Padayani is conducted during the Malayalam Calendar months of Kumbham, Meenam and Medam (The English months of February, March and April).
The temple is located on the banks of River Achankovil, with doors opening to the river.
The temple is also famous for the folk arts and the "Kettukaazhcha" procession with Kaala (bull motif) and Kuthira vela (horse motif).

Omallur, often alternatively spelt Omalloor, is a village, about 4 km south of Pathanamthitta District headquarters, in Kerala. Omallur is famous for Vayal Vanibham which is an annual cattle fair held in the month of Meenam (Malayalam Year). People from both within and outside the state participate in the fair.

Sabarimala is a pilgrimage centre in Kerala located in the Western Ghat mountain ranges of Kerala in Pathanamthitta District. Lord Ayyappan's temple is situated here in the midst of 18 hills. The area is in the Sahyadri ranges of Kerala. The temple is situated on a hilltop at an altitude of 914m/3000 ft above mean sea level, and is surrounded by mountains and dense forests. Temples exists in each of the hills surrounding Sabarimala. While functional and intact temples exist at many places in the surrounding areas like Nilackal, Kalaketi, and Karimala, remnants of old temples survive to this day on remaining hills. Sabarimala is believed to be the place where Ayyappan meditated after killing the powerful demoness, Mahishi.
Sabarimala is one of the most visited piligrim centres in the world with an estimated 45 - 50 million devotees coming every year. The world's second largest annual pilgrimage (after Hajj in Mecca) is reported to be to Sabarimala.
The pilgrimage to Sabarimala is a singular example of one where pilgrims, without consideration of religion, caste, creed, position or social status, go with one aim, one desire and one mantra that is Lord Ayyappa. However no female between the age of 10-50 are allowed to visit this temple. Among many other reasons the fact that core story attributed to Lord Ayyappa prohibits the entry of the women in the menstrual age group.

River Pamba is considered as the Dakshin Ganga due to its association with Kerala's Largest Pilgrim Centre - Sabarimala.

Pandalam is a township in Pathanamthitta District. It is one among the fastest growing towns in Kerala, India. It is considered as a holy town. Pandalam is also a well known educational and health care centre in central Travancore.Pandalam hosts a lot of educational institutions ranging from reputed schools to Post Graduate, Training, Ayurveda and Engineering Colleges. According to legend, Lord Ayyappan, the presiding deity of Sabarimala had his human sojourn at Pandalam as the son of the King of Pandalam. During Sabarimala pilgrimage season, devotees come to Pandalam in large numbers to worship the deity of Valiyakoikkal Temple near the Pandalam Palace. This temple is on the banks of river Achenkovil. Three days prior to the Makaravilakku festival, the sacred ornaments of Lord Ayyappan (known as Thiruvabharanam) are taken in a procession from Pandalam to Sabarimala.
Other famous pilgrim centres of Pandalam are the Mahadevar Temple, Kurampala Puthankavil Bhagavathi Temple, Thonnallur Pattupurakkavu Bhagavathi temple, Kaipuzha Sree Krishna Swami Temple, Poozhikkad Sree Dharma Sastha temple, Kadakkad Mayayakshikkavu Sree Krishna Swami Temple, the centuries old Kadakkad Juma Masjid, Thumpamon Orthodox Cathedral and Kurampala St Thomas Orthodox Church.

Perunthenaruvi Water Falls 15 km from Pathanamthitta town in Pathanamthitta District in the Central Travancore region of Kerala State, India. Perunthenaruvi - (translation: The Great Honey Stream) is an important tourist destination in Pathanamthitta. Located on the Western Ghats of the Sahyadri Range, Perunthenaruvi is famous for the waterfalls there. Rather than the height, the stream here spreads over a wide area. It is a spectacular view of the water bubbling over the rocks.
Moreover, the singing of the birds and the gush of the wild breeze enhances the tour spirit.
The stream later unites with the holy river Pamba.
